Microphone (2- TONOR TC-777 Audio Device)-1: Before we get into the [00:03:00] ideas. If you're looking for a simple way to understand, or even explain the story of Easter, especially to your little ones, let's break it down. Easter is really all about celebrating Jesus and his incredible love. The love that he showed to us when he gave up his life for us. When he took on the punishment that we deserved for our mistakes so that we don't have to it's like he saw us stuck in a pit that we could never climb out of on our own. So he climbed down and he lifted us up. Even though it meant he would get hurt himself. Because of Jesus, we get a fresh start and we get a promise that we can be with God forever. Which is something we could've never done without the sacrifice.
And that's pretty amazing, right. A lot of us think that we're good enough. It's so hard, not like as normal as sin has become in this world as normalized as it is. We [00:04:00] think we're good enough a lot of times. And the thing is it's not really about how big or how small our mistakes are. If we've even made one. That's enough to create a gap between us and a perfect God. Our human nature prevents us from ever being good enough on our own.
But the good news is that God doesn't want that gap. He wants us close to him and that's why he sent his son. Jesus. And when we mess up, because we all do. We're able to turn to God about it. And he's ready to forgive and help us learn to do better next time. It's kind of like when your kids make a mistake and you say, It's okay.
We'll just try again with a heart full of love and forgiveness for them. Jesus made it simple. He said, believe in me. And this gift is yours. It's not about a list of things that you have to do, right. It's just trusting that what Jesus did for us is truly offering you the gift of [00:05:00] life. If you believe in your heart, that Jesus is who he says he is. Then you're part of God's family. For more details on the whole story, you can turn to the Bible for Jesus' life, death and resurrection. You'll find these stories primarily throughout Matthew, mark, Luke and John. It's a beautiful and painful. Story of love, sacrifice, and hope that make life and true joy possible for us.
So as we get ready for Easter with our families, let's remember it's a celebration of the biggest and best love story ever told. We can use this time to remember and celebrate what Jesus did for us. By sharing that love and joy with those around us. I pray. This is helpful for you and your family, and I'm sending you all so much.
Love this Easter season. Now let's get into these faith-based family activities and ideas. You have such a beautiful opportunity to bring the story of Jesus's resurrection into your home in tangible, memorable [00:06:00] ways. So here are some faith-based. Faith-based family activities that promise to add meaning learning and togetherness. To your celebration, starting with some crafts and projects so we can celebrate with creativity. These hands-on projects are fun, but they're also a way to visually express the deep significance of Jesus's resurrection and sacrifice.
First is resurrection gardens.
You can gather some soil, some small pots, a few twigs, some stones, whatever. Little resources you want to use to put together a mini garden, and this is going to represent the empty tomb. It's a powerful visual reminder of Jesus's resurrection. And it's also a great conversation starter with your kids about the meaning of Easter.
Next we have cross decorations.
You can do this in so many different ways. You can paint wooden crosses or you can create crosses out of everyday material like [00:07:00] fabric or paper. And this is just a hands-on way for your family to reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. Then you can display these crosses in your home and bring a sense of reverence and celebration to your space. Next we're going into interactive storytelling where we can bring the Easter story to life. There's something so special about Easter storytelling, storytelling in general, that brings families together and makes lessons stick. The first one is going to be Easter story stones. For this, you're going to paint stones with symbols that represent different parts of the Easter story that could be a cross a tomb, a Palm branch, a Palm leaf. Use these as prompts to tell the story of Jesus his last week on earth, his crucifixion, his resurrection, it's a fun and interactive way to engage the kids and help them see a tangible example. And next family play. Just [00:08:00] assign roles and re-enact scenes from the Easter story altogether. This can be as simple or as elaborate as you like.
It's not really about the performance. It's more about experiencing that story together. Sparking imagination. Opening up discussions and spending that time together. Next we can do community service and reflect Jesus's teachings through our acts of kindness. Easter is a perfect time to look beyond our own celebrations and reach out to others and love and service. Like Jesus wants us to do. And one great example of this.
This is one of my favorite things in this entire episode is blessing baskets. You put together baskets with food and treats or personal care items. And you find neighbors in need or those who might be alone during Easter. That is a wonderful way for the family to work together. In generosity.
Microphone (2- TONOR TC-777 Audio Device)-2: It's so fun to choose who you guys get to give these blessing baskets to as a family., [00:09:00] for me, my heart really goes out to like our elderly generation, because I always think about my grandparents and like my grandfather's passed away, but I always think about them and how they've got so many people in their corner.
So many people in their family, like that show up for them. They have always shown up for them and continue to show up for my grandma. But there are so many people in their eighties, nineties who are out here just navigating life alone. And they don't even have somebody to take them to appointments. They don't have somebody that checks on them.
They don't have somebody to call that is so much more common than we realize a lot of times. So think about people like that, who genuinely don't have anybody else to show up for them? Think about maybe like a single parent who doesn't have family nearby to be there for them. Those people that genuinely feel like no one sees them. And is thinking of them. And you give them a blessing basket. And maybe you include like a personalized note in that blessing basket from your [00:10:00] family about how God led you to do this for them. And do you know what a big difference that could make to somebody?
Do you know how much God could work through you? In something like that. Okay, I'm going to move on, but I love those. And another thing you can do as volunteer as a family, you can look for local opportunities where your whole family can volunteer, whether that's helping out. At a community garden doing like a cleanup day serving meals together. These can instill values of service and empathy in your children.
Microphone (2- TONOR TC-777 Audio Device)-3: This next section has a lot of links for educational and inspirational products. So in the description. And in the show notes, I will link to the blog portion or the blog version of this episode, where you have access to all of those links. , so as you embrace the Easter season with your family, there's a lot of amazing resources that are going to tell the story of Jesus, his resurrection, and help add depth and understanding. [00:11:00] To that celebration. So I've handpicked some books and activities that I highly recommend. And first I've picked some books that really bring the Easter story to life.
And I've got two options for each kind of age range for the littlest ones that are baby to preschool. I've got this as Easter. This book introduces the joy of Easter with simple and engaging illustrations. It's very, very nice for little kids. And then baby's first Easter is a board book with a very colorful introduction to Easter.
For babies. It's got cheerful images and lots of positive parent child interaction. And next in our growing in faith section for preschool to second grade, I've got, God gave us Easter. I have read this book to my son, like over a hundred times, probably it uses a little Cub to explore the meaning of Easter and the love of God.
It's comforting. It's hopeful. It's so cute. And then the garden, the curtain and the [00:12:00] cross. This can take your children on a journey from the garden of Eden to Jesus's resurrection and share that incredible story of why Jesus died and why he rose again. And then our curious minds section for third to seventh grade, I recommend the donkey who carried a king. Which is a beautifully illustrated book that tells the story of Davey, the donkey and his unexpected journey with king Jesus.
It's a nice story of service and sacrifice and the true king who loves us. And then Amman's adventure. A family story for Easter is a novel that follows a 13 year old boy that was living during the time of Jesus's crucifixion. And then I've included two activities to help bring the story to life. The first is family life, resurrection eggs. This is a 12 piece Easter egg set that comes with a story booklet and toys inside each egg.
And that really represents the part of the Easter story. It's a hands-on way to play and learn at the same time in an [00:13:00] engaging and fun way. And the next is called the Easter story egg. So these are nesting eggs, and they're going to tell the story of the holy week, the week that leads up to Easter. Each layer reveals a different day through the holy week from Palm Sunday to resurrection Sunday, and they have illustrations and references. On each day. And again, so in the show notes and the description, I'll link you to the blog version and you can find the links to every single, every single resource that I just recommended. And then next, you can also find links for a few of these. These are Easter themed treats and snacks, because what better way to express joy than through delicious treats that carry a deeper meaning.
So whether you're in the kitchen, whipping up something special and homemade, or you would rather choose thoughtful treats that tell the story of Easter that you can order. I feel you there sometimes that is me. Most of the times that is me. , Easter treats can [00:14:00] be a very sweet reminder of Jesus's love and the joy of the resurrection.
So I've got scripture candy here. These are delicious milk chocolates. That have the message of Jesus lives on every single one of them. And you can get a 24 pack of those and then jelly, bean, prayer beans. They are jelly beans that are colored and they're themed with a prayer that tell the Easter story through each color. And I've got two different sizes of those linked and then a 91 pack of chocolate candy crosses.
So these things are great, whether you're getting them for the children and your family. Or you're a teacher, a Sunday school teacher, anything like that. You've got these options that you can add to Easter baskets. If that's something that you do. And then next we've got some recipes. Where you can engage the whole family with simple fun to make Easter themed recipes that are rich in meaning. Each recipe has a special way to connect with the Easter story and [00:15:00] make your celebration even more memorable.
First we have Easter story cookies and stained glass cross cookies, which are so pretty. I love those. And then resurrection roles. These are really popular. They're also known as empty tomb roles. You can also do some healthy options like fruit and veggie platters, where you arrange them in the shape of a cross or an empty tomb. You could do Easter garden cups where you fill up clear cups with hummus or dip and you put in some carrot and celery sticks for vegetation and use a sliced cucumber as sort of like a stone. That you can roll away from the tomb.
So there's our 22 ideas. And as you prepare your heart and your home for Easter, I also want to share something really special with you.
