Biblical Principles for a Peaceful Home- the Christian Career Mom Podcast
===
[00:00:00] Hi, welcome to the Christian career mom podcast, episode number 12. Today, we're going to talk about something super important. Which is biblical principles for a peaceful home. And I know it may not need defined, but when I say peaceful, I don't mean quiet, lacking excitement or boring. I mean the legitimate definition of the word, which is freedom from disturbance. It's a home where conflict exists, but is managed in a healthy way where emotions are felt, but are handled intelligently where busy-ness exists. But time management runs the show where each member of our families feels content. Regardless of the circumstances on good days and on bad days

Okay, welcome friends. So today we're going on a journey into the Bible to find timeless principles for creating the peaceful home that we desire and deserve. Our world is filled with chaos and distraction. And those things [00:02:00] do their very best to throw us off course and pull us outside of what God intends for us. However, faith is stronger than fear. You are stronger than your distractions and God is stronger than anything. So don't worry. You've got this. I want you to think of scripture, like your compass, your true north, something to keep you always on track or you risk losing direction and getting lost and thrown off course. How can you know, which direction is the right direction without your compass? You can't just go out there and wing it. The truth is we don't have a clue, but with our compass, we do have direction. We have a path and we have a purpose. With our compass, regardless of what we face along the way, see out in the distance, or know for a fact is right on our heels. We're good. We're in alignment and we're heading towards our true north. [00:03:00] Okay. So we're going to be exploring three fundamental biblical principles and how they can be worked more effectively into our lives. And those are gratitude. Kindness and unity. Scripture gives us the blueprint for building our home. On these principles. So let's talk about gratitude first. Gratitude is a foundational principle that sets the tone for our peaceful home. It's much more than just saying thank you to one another. It's an attitude. And it's a way of life that consistently aligns our hearts with God's will. Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to cultivate gratitude in your home. You can document all of the things that you're thankful for. And busy mamas that don't feel like you have time to sit down and write. You can also use a journal or a diary app or the notes app on your phone, which honestly is what I do because I can accomplish the [00:04:00] same task in less than half the time, and then be able to reference it wherever I go. But writing also has a calming effect on people. So give that a try and see if it's beneficial for you. At the end of the day, whatever is easiest for you to continue and maintain is the way to go. When you have those items to reference both big and small. You basically have a pick me up right at your fingertips. If you're having a bad day lacking motivation, feeling unappreciated, feeling a lack of fulfillment. Grab your gratitude journal, flip through those pages and remind yourself of the abundance of blessings in your life. Another great way to cultivate gratitude is making sure that you're consistently expressing it to your family members. Tell your spouse, if you have one, your children, your parents, how much you appreciate them. Be specific and be sincere. It's amazing how much a heartfelt message of appreciation can [00:05:00] brighten someone's day and build lifelong bonds between family members. Now our second principle in creating a peaceful home is kindness. It's a simple word with a lot of power. The Bible reminds us any Feagins for 32 to be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving one another, just as God also forgave us. But how can we practice kindness more in our daily lives? Well, we start with small, intentional acts of love. This can be as simple as a genuine smile for your child. When you know, they've had a hard day or helping your kids with their homework, with a positive attitude, even when you're really tired. Be an empathetic listener. When someone you love is having a tough time. Don't just be there for them with words. I be there for them, with your entire being be present, let them know how much you care by actively [00:06:00] listening to their concerns, their feelings and thoughts. Sometimes all we need is someone to truly hear us. And we're so used to communicating with people who listen just to respond rather than listen, to understand. Being that active empathetic listener for your loved ones is an amazing act of kindness and love. And lastly for practicing kindness is being extremely quick to forgive and seek forgiveness. We all make mistakes and we all have moments of selfishness. That's part of being human. But it's how we respond to those things that can either break or build the bonds within our families. Never hold grudges. Give forgiveness and seek it when it's needed. This is a really powerful way to keep relationships strong and promote kindness in your home. Now for our third principle, we have promoting a spirit of unity. Unity and our families is a precious gift. Psalm [00:07:00] 1 33 verse one. Tells us how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity. But how do we cultivate this in our lives? I love family meetings for this create a safe space where each member of the family has a chance to share their thoughts, their concerns. Third joys or even their lows with active listeners, many people add a lot of extras to their family meetings, like figuring out everyone's schedule for the following week. Who's responsible for dinner every night. What does everyone need? Does anyone need to resolve any conflict? And this can be completely up to you, but the scheduled and consistently held moment to connect and cast a shared vision family goals and listen to one another. It goes a long way towards unity. Think of these three principles. Gratitude kindness and unity as tools that can transform our homes into places of [00:08:00] peace and love. And how do I know that this is what God wants for us and intended for us? I know that because our compass tells us, so Ephesians four verses one through three urges us to walk worthy of the calling. We have received. With all humility and gentleness with patience. Bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace. So there you have it. My friends, the importance of cultivating gratitude, practicing kindness, and promoting a spirit of unity within our families. These are our biblical principles for peaceful homes. And before we wrap up, I want to invite all of you to join our free Facebook community for Christian parents.
