Why Do We Celebrate Easter?

If you're looking for a simple way to understand or explain the profound story of Easter, especially to your little ones, let’s break it down before we move on to activities.

Easter is all about celebrating Jesus and the incredible love He showed us. Jesus gave up His life for us, taking on the punishment we deserved because of our mistakes—so that we don’t have to. It’s like He saw us stuck in a pit we couldn’t climb out of on our own, so He climbed down and lifted us up, even though it meant getting hurt Himself. Because of Jesus, we get a fresh start and a promise that we can be with God forever. We never could’ve done this without Jesus’ sacrifice. That’s pretty amazing, right?

A lot of us think we’re “good enough”. The thing is, it’s not about how big or small our mistakes are. If we’ve made even one, it’s enough to create a gap between us and God. Our human nature prevents us from ever being good enough on our own. But here’s the good news—God doesn’t want that gap. He wants us close to Him, which is why He sent Jesus.

And when we mess up (because we all do), we’re able to turn to God about it. When we do, He’s ready to forgive and help us learn to do better next time. It’s like when you tell your kids, "It’s okay, let’s try again," with a heart full of love.

Jesus made it super simple. He said, "Believe in me, and this gift is yours." It’s not about doing a list of things right. It’s about trusting that what Jesus did for us truly offers you the gift of life. If you believe in your heart that Jesus is who He says He is, then you’re part of the family.

For more details on the whole story, turn to the Bible for Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. You’ll find these stories primarily in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It’s a beautiful (and painful) story of love, sacrifice, and hope that make life and true joy possible for us.

So, as we get ready for Easter with our families, let’s remember it’s a celebration of the biggest and best love story ever told. We can use this time to remember and celebrate what Jesus did for us by sharing that love and joy with those around us.

I pray this is helpful for you and your family. Sending you all lots of love this Easter season. ❤️

Interactive Storytelling: Bringing the Easter Story to Life

There's something special about storytelling that brings families together and makes lessons stick.

Easter Story Stones: Paint stones with symbols representing different parts of the Easter story (e.g., a cross, a tomb, a palm leaf). Use them as prompts to tell the story of Jesus' last week on earth, His crucifixion, and His resurrection. It's a fun and interactive way to engage kids of all ages.

Family Play: Assign roles and re-enact scenes from the Easter story together. This can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. It's not about the performance but about experiencing the story together, sparking imagination, and opening up discussions about its significance.

Community Service: Reflecting Jesus’ Teachings Through Acts of Kindness

Easter is a perfect time to look beyond our own celebrations and reach out to others in love and service, just as Jesus taught us.

Blessing Baskets: Put together baskets with food, treats, or personal care items for neighbors in need or for those who might be alone during Easter. It's a wonderful way for the family to work together in generosity.
